Oasis Inspiration - BE ENCOURAGED! (Video)

“There’s nothing more powerful than the gift of God’s promises."

Thursday, December 04, 2014

I recently began a 40-day devotional titled "All for the Master: Reflections on the Stewardship of our Gifts" by Daniel J. Celia. Many of the topics were great and I have been learning a lot from the book, and although it was mostly focused on financial gifts, the author does touch on other topics as well. (I will share more as time goes on). One of the things that stood out to me was on Day 10 where Celia began the last paragraph with the statement:

"Giving is the inevitable consequence of true Christian faith."

While I agree with Celia when he states that Jesus did not lower the standards of giving set out in the Old Testament (but rather raised them), I do not completely agree with his above statement. Perhaps, it is the wording. Here's how I would rephrase that statement:

"Giving is an inevitable evidence of true Christian faith."

Sunday's Best - "RED-Y OR NOT..."

The day I wore this outfit to church, I literally threw it on within minutes of heading out the door.

Oasis Inspiration - FALL IN LOVE WITH CHANGE

I may not be fond of the cold weather, but I have to admit: there is a remarkable beauty that comes with the change in season. The same goes for life. We may not like the transition into a new phase, but there's always something beautiful that can be derived from that change.

IN ONE YEAR... - Happy Anniversary, My Style Oasis!

“We must be willing to let go of the life we have planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us.”

- Joseph Campbell

This post is so long overdue...

Last month (September) marked the first anniversary of My Style Oasis!

Hello y'all!

It seems like forever since I last put up a blog post! I apologize, I've been quite busy, with a lot of things. As you can see the blog has a new look! It's temporary though, as I'm looking to migrate to a website soon.
I've also been with several custom orders (major thanks to my Mom for the referrals), as well as stocking up my online store (a big "Thank you" to those who placed orders there). If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen some pictures of these custom orders.

Anyway, now that the Fruits And Fashion Series is over, I wanted to do a recap before moving on.

My Style Oasis, Ankara Pussy Bow Top

Hello everyone!

And Happy Independence Day to all my Nigerian readers!

Today, my home country is celebrating 54 years of independence from British rule. We're may not be where we ought to be as a country, but we're definitely not where we used to be. Thanking God for His mercy on Nigeria, and praying for a better tomorrow.

Here's the final post in my Fruits and Fashion Series.

If you were following me since the beginning of my Fruits & Fashion Series, you would notice that this was not the piece I intended to use for "Orange" in my original idea. In my Series Preview, I had planned to make something using a different orange fabric, but as we all know, life can take you a different route than you planned. Oh well!

My Style Oasis, Ankara Bustier Top

While brainstorming for the Fruits And Fashion Series, my mom sent me this top, and it just fell right into place with the other pieces I had! I'd love to make another bustier top like this, perhaps with a sweetheart neckline, like my little white dress.

Sneak Peek - AVOCADO

My earliest memory of eating avocado involved sprinkling a pinch (or two) of salt on it before scooping out the deliciousness with a spoon. That's how we eat it in my home country, Nigeria. And that's how I eat it to this day.

Hello lovely people!

Hope you had a wonderful weekend! Mine was packed, but very memorable. On Friday, I celebrated 5 years of marriage with my husband. On Saturday, we had our first Women's Conference in our church. And on Sunday, our church celebrated 9 years in ministry! Praise God!

It was a glorious weekend, and I would blog about it, but I didn't get to take pictures with my camera, as I was involved in the planning, setup and participating. Plus, my kids were an extra handful. Which is why I NEED A PHOTOGRAPHER!

[Shameless plug: If you or anyone you know is a photographer in the Greater Philadelphia area, and are interested in working with me and my brand, please feel free to leave a comment below, or send me a message at]

I usually take most of my blog pictures myself, and although I had gotten quite used to it (and frankly, quite better too), for the Fruits and Fashion Series, I chose to seek the help of my dear friend and blogger, Memkoh, who graciously became my photographer for the past month or so. My many thanks go out to her for the first four posts in the Fruits and Fashion Series

Unfortunately for me Fortunately, this my Blogger BFF moved away to pursue her dreams of changing the future. And I've been here stalling with going back to my usual tripod set up.

So, with a nonchalant attitude one evening, I set up shop on my back deck. Here are the results.

Sneak Peek - GRAPEVINE

I love grapes!

So, obviously I had to make them part of this series.

Here's a sneak peek of the next post in the Fruits And Fashion Series.

Clearly, I changed my mind on my choice of shoes! Lol!

Have a lovely evening!

MIXED PRINTS - A Casual Outfit

Yesterday on my Instagram, I posted a #FromWhereIStand picture of my outfit, and although I had no intention of blogging about it, I got great feedback and a request for a full outfit blog post, so here it is!

TAKE ON POCONO - My Mini Impromptu Vacation

Earlier this month, hubby and I took a two-day trip to a resort in The Poconos just to relax and recoup. It was nice getting a way for a bit.

Shout out to Grandma for watching the kids!

Here are a few snapshots from our trip.

A DAY IN NEW YORK - Everything Girls Love

Happy 100th post to me!

I'm truly sorry it took this long to do this post, but it all works out because this post is so befitting for today. I have just received some good news that I can't wait to share with you all. It's still brewing, so I'll wait till later to give all the details.

Here's a photo journal of my one day trip to New York last month.

BEHIND THE SCENES - EGL 2014 Summer To Fall Lookbook / Fashion Video

Behind-the-scenes of the Everything Girls Love 2014 Summer to Fall Lookbook

When I saw this fabric, I just I had to have it! I'm a huge sucker for bold prints and bright colors, and this Ankara just falls right in!

And it worked perfectly for my Fruits and Fashion Series. It's just as colorful as a fruit salad!

FRUITS AND FASHION - Denim & Ankara Pencil Skirt

My Style Oasis, Denim and Ankara Pencil Skirt

It's baa-aack!!!

My trademark half and half denim and Ankara pencil skirt is making a comeback! And this time, it's better and brighter!

At first, I was going to go bananas with this one (get it? Yellow...banana...), but that felt a bit too close to the surface of my creativity level. After a some fruits shots and retakes, I decided to go with blueberries...again! It just worked better with the pattern of the Ankara, and it also helped me be more creative with the fabric.

This gorgeous blue and orange Ankara fabric reminded me blueberries and peaches!

I wouldn't typically buy peaches as part of my grocery shopping. I can probably count on one hand how many times I've eaten a peach in my lifetime...well, unless you're counting peach pies! Lol! But of course, as part of my project, I tried some. I kinda like the crunch. I ate them with blueberries and yogurt for breakfast. Yum!

Do you like peaches or blueberries?

FRUITS AND FASHION - Red Berry Sleeveless Blazer

Independence Day may have passed but red, white and blue is such a classic combination. It can be worn just about any time of the year!

Wednesday, July 23, 2014

I'll be kicking off this series with some delicious berries!

I don't eat them as often as I'd like, but I do love strawberries! So sweet and so juicy! Bananas are a close favorite. I don't think I ever bought blueberries before now, but while brainstorming for this "Fruits & Fashion" series, I decided to get some. Not bad at all!

Do you like any of these fruits?

Monday, July 21, 2014

So, I came up with this crazy idea to create a collection of outfits inspired by fruits. As you already know, I love making a lot of pieces with Ankara (African Print Fabric), so I will be using them for this series. I've been sitting on the idea for almost two months now, but I was holding out because I was waiting for the perfect conditions before I begin (i.e. a photographer, a shooting location, etc). I have since realized that if I wait until everything is perfect, I just might never get anything done.

So here it goes...

"Sweetheart" - DIY Little White Dress

Let me start by saying, I don't think I've worn an all-white dress since my wedding day! And it's not because I don't want to. Having two toddlers kind of limits the things I can wear when I'm around them. I finally got to do so last Sunday.

"Twisted Marley" - Flat-Twists & Crotchet Braids (Braid Pattern)

Hope your week is going great so far! Mine has been pretty busy, but I can't complain.

Like I mentioned before, when my hair is out to play, I definitely play with it! You've probably already seen this hairstyle in some of my previous posts. I also posted a picture on my Instagram page a couple of weeks ago. It's going to be my hairstyle for the next month or so.

I just wanted to share a closer look at how I achieved it.
