Can you believe the year is almost over? Hope you had a lovely Christmas holiday! Last week was an amazing holiday period for me. From spending lots of indoor time with my husband and children, to attending Christmas festivities at church, as well as with family and friends, I'm ready to wind down for the rest of the year. If you're looking for me, I'll most likely be under the covers, sipping some hot cocoa, and planning the year ahead.

Merry Christmas!

Wishing you and yours a wonderful Christmas celebration filled with joy and peace of celebrating the birth of the new born King!

While we won't be traveling for Christmas this year, we will still be around loved ones. We attended a Christmas Day Service earlier today at RCCG Love Assembly. Here are a few attempts at capturing the "perfect" family portrait.

I can't believe how warm the weather is in December! I don't want to jinx it, but let me just add that I'm loving it!!!

"T'is the season for all things sparkly!" As Christmas draws closer, I find myself more and more drawn to all things sparkly. Here's how I wore this sequin piece to church yesterday, and I got a lot of compliments on it!

"Like A Little Child" - Sermon Excerpt (Video)

Last Sunday, I preached my first ever sermon! What a privilege!

I grew up as the shy and quiet little girl, and so never in a million years did I think I would be up on stage for any reason much less preaching the Gospel! God is awesome!

Little Bow Blue

My Style Oasis, McCall's 6650, DIY Maternity, Ankara Maternity

Happy Monday! Hope you had a lovely weekend.

As much as I love Ankara fabric, lately, I've been having a hard time sewing with it for my growing bump. Because it has no stretch to it, I know that anything I make will most likely have a lifespan of about a week...two weeks, at the most. The day they create an Ankara knit fabric, know that I'll be one of the first people in line to get my hands on some!

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. Cos I sure did. I spent it at home with family and friends, cooking, laughing, watching movies, and of course, eating. By the end of the day, I had eaten so much I could hardly move!

Oh, and my first turkey came out looking AND tasting great!
(If you follow me on Instagram or Twitter, you may have already seen a picture of the end result).
Thanks to everyone who shared their turkey roasting tips in person, here on the blog, as well as on social media. Side note: Oven bags are truly Ah-mazing!

Hello! And Happy Monday!

I don't know about you, but I'm excited that Thanksgiving is almost here! The kids are off for the entire week, so if you're looking for us, we'll be home, hanging out, cuddling under the covers, eating popcorn and watching movies on repeat, or whatever else fun things we find to do! This year will be my first time baking a turkey. Wish me luck! Better than that, leave a comment with your tried-and-true tricks on the perfect roast. Thanks in advance!

As I get ready to binge watch TV shows on Netflix and sip on some hot cocoa, I'm also eyeing some cozy pieces to keep me warm this fall...

With the dropping temperatures, it's definitely time to embrace the cozy sweaters, knit dresses, and statement jackets. Romwe has some amazing fall pieces that are great for the fall. A lot of their pieces can easily fit into any closet, and they can be dressed up or dressed down.
Best of all, they're incredibly affordable.

STYLE THE BUMP: First Trimester Recap

Since I finally "let the cat out of the bag" that "there's a bun in the oven," I figured I'd share a quick recap of my first trimester outfits (blogged and unblogged). I was really trying to hide it for the first trimester, and my husband kept wondering how I was doing it whenever we were out and about, because at home, my midsection was getting quite large! I didn't really start showing to the public until about 12 weeks. Although by that point, I mostly got looks like "Is she pregnant, or did she just eat a little too much today?" Lol!

"Something Different" - Sweater + Ankara

Ankara Pencil Skirt

Hello and Happy Thursday! Hope you've had a great week so far. I feel like I've been running all week, and I'm looking forward to winding down this weekend. Netflix, here I come! Haha!

Since I made this skirt last year, I can't get enough of it! I pull it out of my closet once a season and try to find a unique way to style it.
(See how I've styled it in the past for Summer, FallWinter, and Spring.)

Here is another fall styling of this skirt that is unique in it's own way.

Good morning! And happy Friday!

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen my throwback post about how much has happened in a year. My church family, RCCG Love Assembly, hosts a weekly prayer line conference, and last night, I had the privilege to lead the conference, and I talked on the topic "Strength In Adversity."

Behind the Seams: DIY Blazer (Pattern Review)

Simplicity Pattern 1542, DIY Blazer

Hi there! Hope you're having a great week!

Just stopping in to share details of a DIY blazer I worked on last week. If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen a picture I posted about it. Here are a few more pictures of the inside of the blazer, plus a pattern review.

"Hidden Gem" - DIY Pants

Simplicity Pattern 2700

This fall, I'm slowly going through my fabric stash and finding gems that I almost forgot I this lovely stretch denim fabric I purchased from Joann's about a year ago (similar here). When I saw this fabric, I had no idea what I would make with it, but I knew I had to buy it. I think the subtle emerald color was what drew me to it. The fabric actually shimmers in the light; I guess my camera didn't pick that up in these pictures.

Mudcloth Maxi Shirt Dress

Mudcloth Maxi Shirt Dress, DIY Shirt Dress, New Look Pattern A6180

Hello & Happy Thursday!

Hope your week is going well. This chilly weather has got me really just wanting to stay under the covers all day long... Even with my flu-like symptoms, I still find myself wishing I can, but when you have 2 toddlers running around the house, your work is never done! Ah, the joys of motherhood!

Just wanted to share pictures of this maxi shirt dress I made earlier this month.

CURRENT CRAVINGS: Fall/Winter Patterns

Right this very moment, as I type this, I wish I were sewing. Unfortunately, I'm not, because I haven't feeling too well lately. Runny nose, watery eyes, itchy throat...I think you get the picture. I'm getting better though, but I blame it on the weather change. Be it as it may, seasons change. That's just the fact of life, and I have to live with it. I'm happy and blessed to be alive, so that's just fine with me.

Since I don't have a DIY outfit post to share today, I figured I'd share some patterns that I've been eyeing recently.

"Ordained" - 5 Things I've Learned About Working For God

Ankara Styles, Gele

Camouflage Pants, Sequin Sweater

Happy Thursday!

Hope you're having a great week so far. Mine has been quite busy, and I'm looking forward to enjoying the weekend by catching up on some much needed rest. Speaking of catching up, my hubby and I recently started watching the new season of Vampire Diaries that was just released on Netflix (season 6), and it's like we were on a marathon! We literally binge-watched the entire season in 4 days! Lol! I know it's like a high school teenage type show, but it's definitely entertaining. Do you watch the show? Who is your favorite character?

As Tall As A Giraffe

New Look Pattern A6176

Hello! Hope you all are well. A cold front literally just came over the East Coast late last week, and it rained almost all weekend. We were anticipating Hurricane Joaquin to make its landfall yesterday, but thankfully, it missed hitting the shores. Anyway, because of the weather, I enjoyed my weekend by spending my entire Saturday indoors with my hubby and kids, enjoying some much needed family time. And then, we spent our Sunday with our church family at RCCG Love Assembly. Hope your weekend was nice too.

Polka Dots With A Flare

DIY Circle Skirt

Hello and Happy Monday!

Who doesn't love a circle skirt? It's so fun and so girly, and since it's been such a long time since I last made one for myself, I decided to make another! I used this gorgeous royal blue satin I purchased recently from one of the stores on Fabric Row, in Center City Philadelphia.
(If you're not familiar with Fabric Row, see HERE for a post I did on it about a year ago.)

Throwback: Purple Peplum

Ankara Blazer, Ankara Peplum Blazer

When I got this fabric from my mom, yellow was the only color that I thought to combine it with. I've always thought purple and yellow are such a perfect color combination, and this blazer proves it!

This is the last of the Ankara blazers I made last fall. This one like the others was made using the New Look A6231 pattern, with alterations to the collar and peplum (mentioned previously here and here respectively)

Throwback: "Star Blazing"

Ankara Blazer, Ankara Peplum Blazer

Hello again!

Today, I continue my throwback series of Ankara Fall blazers from last year. Here's another blazer I made using the same New Look A6231 pattern. The only difference is that I made this one with a square-cut "handkerchief" peplum instead.

Throwback: Ankara Fall Blazer

~ Pattern Review ~

Ankara Blazer, Ankara Peplum Blazer

So, as it turns out, this week officially marks the end of Summer. I can tell that fall is definitely here, because our morning walks to the school bus are a lot chillier.

About this time last year, I was on a blazer-making mission! Haha! I was so busy, I never got around to blogging about them. So, this week, I will be sharing all the blazers I made in the Fall of 2014 using the New Look A6231 pattern.

~ Pattern Review ~
McCalls M6172

Ankara Sleeveless Blazer

Another transitional piece that I think is great as the weather starts to cool down is the sleeveless blazer. I made this one (last seen here) in the summer last year as part of my Fruits and Fashion seriesI don't know why it has taken me this long to think of making another one. I definitely need a few blazers in my closet, and this one is a perfect fit!

"Hello" Goodbye...

Hello Apparel Tank Top

It's so sad... to think that the summer is almost over...

Monday, September 07, 2015

Ankara Tube Dress

Happy Monday! Hope you're enjoying your Labor Day holiday today. I plan to chill with my husband and little ones, probably watching something fun on Netflix.

Speaking of Netflix, recently, my hubby and I watched the miniseries "Houdini." Quite intriguing, the legendary magician, Harry Houdini. To think that most times, a so-called trick is just an illusion... Gives meaning to the phrase "The more you look, the less you see."

Cherry Blossom Kimono

DIY Kimono

Hello September!

Fall is almost here. Although summer is my favorite season, I love fall too...except for the fact it leads right into the winter.

The beginning of fall usually means cooler mornings and evenings. And that, in turn, translates to dressing in layers. A kimono is a perfect item for transitioning into the cooler weather. Easy to layer, and very versatile.

Back To School - Fall Style

~ Pattern Review ~
New Look A6275

It's been crazy busy and yet exciting for me and my family this past weekend, and I'm looking forward to catching up on some much needed rest this week.

Today, my 5 year old daughter starts Kindergarten! How time flies! My baby is all grown up! Check out this cute little jacket I made for her. I think it's absolutely perfect for fall. How cute would it be if she could wear this today and make a bold statement on her first day at school? Don't worry; she's dressed more formally, as per school dress code, and all.

Lazy Summer Days Are Over...

Kaftan, Caftan, Kaftan Style

Can you believe summer is almost over?!

It has been such a crazy busy summer that I've resorted to "lazy" dressing as my everyday stay-at-home look. I literally lived in kaftans like this one all summer long!

I know most times, bloggers show the highlight reel of our lives, when we're all dressed up and "advertising" ourselves and our outfits. But just so you know we live pretty normal lives too.

So, here's a snippet of me, without the make up and the fancy clothes. Just regular me, being a regular mom, on a regular day!
